The Journey to Date

There has been an incredible amount of work done to date focused on Dakhká Nation rebuilding starting many decades ago up to today.  We benefit from this work in that we are able to collect all that has been done, compile, share and learn from it, and then BUILD upon this amazing journey to date!

“The Dakh Ka Tlingit Nation is one people, with one traditional territory. Our Elders have always told us that we are One Nation and have directed us to act as One Nation.”  Letter Of Understanding signed by the Chiefs of Dakhká Tlingit Member First Nations –
Nov 1997

Moving forward

With the project themes guiding:
  • Continue to review and capture the work done over the past decades to today to benefit from the work of our Nation leaders both past and present
  • Share with the Citizens and Beneficiaries what is learned
  • Listen and learn with the Citizens and Beneficiaries through numerous points of engagement (in-person and virtual meetings, social media feedback, on the land events, and other opportunities
  • Develop learning products that enable and support all of us gaining a better understanding as to what the Dakhká Nation will look like

"Be strong for the sake of our children, you have a lot of children following you. It is up to us as parents to pass on the language, like the way it was done a long time ago." Lucy Wren, Elders Gathering 1998.

Where We Are Going

Next steps include:
  • Host other community/Nation-focused activities the support collective learning and sharing about the Dakhká Nation
